Visiting Cambodia was one of my biggest goals… not only because of the larger than life, Angkor Wat but also because heard so many stories about this country from other travelers.. Cambodia is one of the poorest places in Asia and in the World,  but they are definitely some of the most peaceful and honest people I have met… Siem Reap is a 6 hour bus ride from Phnom Penh, Capital of Cambodia..

Where to stay

Pub Street…need I say more?!

There are a LOT of cheap hostels in and around the Old Market area which is host to the Siem Reap Night Market and the ever popular Pub Street… I stayed at the Old Market Hostel which is right next to the Night Market. Costs about $9 a night which I felt was a pretty neat deal considering its location and free internet facility… The whole area is extremely lively and you can fine super awesome local food and drinks.. You can also book tours from the hotels and the shops nearby.. Lot of shopping options also available in and around the Old Market area…

What to do

1. Visit the Angkor Wat during Sunrise… BREATH TAKING !!!

2. Visit the Angkor Wat Museum to understand the city better…

3. Rent a bicycle or a motorbike for a day and explore on your own… try getting away from other tourists for a change to get insight into the culture and lifestyle of the locals…

4. Visit the Floating Village and Forest…

5. Have a Crocodile/Snake burger from the World Cafe at Pub Street.. Also try some ice cream from Blue Pumpkin…

What NOT to do

Never back out of a done-deal… they don’t like it !

Beware of the rains!

The streets of Siem Reap get water clogged during the rainy season… Research and ensure that no rain is in sight when you decide to come here or it might seriously hamper your plans…
